Bain & Company promotes four partners in São Paulo office

Bain & Company has over the course of the past twelve months appointed four new partners in Brazil. 

Abel Colaco, Luis Frota, Kai Grass and Carlos Libera are all based in the firm’s São Paulo office, and join Bain & Company’s partner team from within its own ranks. The promotions sees Bain’s partner team in Brazil grow to 26 partners in total, of which 23 are based in São Paulo and 3 in Rio de Janeiro.

Abel Colaco, Luis Frota, Kai Grass and Carlos Libera - Bain & Company

Abel Colaco is a partner in the Financial Services practice, with a focus on clients in the insurance industries. He specialises in strategy, strategic planning, IT and commercial effectiveness, organisation design, mergers and acquisitions, cost reduction, digitisation and marketing effectiveness, and has worked with large national and multinational groups across South America. 

The new partner joined Bain & Company in 2011 after completing his MBA at INSEAD, having previously served Portugal Telecom for nearly five years.

Luis Frota has been with the global strategy and management consulting firm from the start of his career. He joined in 2007 as an Associate Consultant and ascended the ranks to partner in thirteen years. In between, he completed an MBA from Harvard Business School. 

Frota works with clients across a range of industries, including financial services, education, media and industrial goods, with a focus on telecom. He is an expert in Bain & Company’s Telecommunications practice as well as the firm's Capital Effectiveness Center of Excellence. He advises clients on topics including strategy, mergers & acquisitions, information technology and customer strategy and marketing.

Kai Grass is an expert in healthcare and pharmaceuticals. He has worked with pharma/biotech and medical devices companies and with providers (hospitals, diagnostic labs and distributors) on projects addressing business planning, market analysis, strategy, corporate development, mergers & acquisitions, customer strategy and performance improvement. 

He also specialises in mergers & acquisitions related work, having advised on dozens of deals in industries including healthcare, airlines, industrial goods and consumer goods. Grass’ role spans MA& strategy, target screening, commercial/vendor due diligence and transaction support services. 

German-origin Grass has been with Bain & Company for a decade now, and previously worked in the firm’s Frankfurt office. Before joining the consultancy, he gained brief experience at Procter & Gamble and Accenture. 

Carlos Libera joined Bain & Company in 2012, having previously worked for companies in Brazil’s real estate sector and obtained an MBA at INSEAD. Over the past eight years in consulting, he has helped clients with strategy, governance and board effectiveness, performance improvement, category management, cost reduction, supply chain and digitisation. 

The newly promoted partner in particular specialises in helping clients embrace digitalisation, technology and innovation, using advanced analytics and machine learning. He focuses on companies in the automotive, consumer products, infrastructure and real estate industries.

The four new partners are part of a wider intake of new partners at Bain & Company, comprising over 90 individuals from 40 offices across its June and December promotions rounds. In Latin America, two others partners were among the appointments: Clara Albuquerque (Mexico City) and Alejandro Perez (Buenos Aires).
