Colombian start-up Symplifica wins BCG's Social Impact Consulting Program

Symplifica, a Colombian start-up that helps small businesses with payroll management, has been named the winner of Boston Consulting Group’s Social Impact Consulting Program.
Held for the ninth time, this year in partnership with Acumen Latam Impact Ventures (ALIVE), the Social Impact Consulting Program has as its objective to help Latin American social enterprises with scaling and professionalizing their business. The winner of the competition receives pro bono consulting from Boston Consulting Group (BCG), which is one of the world’s leading management consulting firms.
The winner of the 2024 competition, Symplifica, was founded in 2016 and offers solutions in payroll management, with a particular focus on formalizing and improving the quality of life of domestic workers. It is also responsible for ensuring that workers receive all mandatory legal benefits, such as social security payments.
Going forward, Symplifica will work with BCG consultants to refine its growth strategy and expand its reach.
Bruno Mourão, managing director at BCG, emphasized the importance of social impact ventures like Symplifica for building a more inclusive economy. “Promoting disruptive ventures like Symplifica is essential for the development of Colombia and the region.”
For Symplifica, the award is the third this year. In September, the start-up was selected as one of the thirty winners of the MIT Solve program, an initiative of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology that promotes technological solutions to solve social challenges. As part of the prize, Symplifica received over $30,000 in gifts, as well as access to nine months of mentoring from experts.
Symplifica was also recognized in Amsterdam by the Dutch Good Growth Fund, receiving the 2024 Women’s Economic Empowerment Award for its impact on promoting female employment in Colombia.
Looking ahead to 2025, the start-up plans to seek capital to consolidate its leadership in the Colombian market, and improve its profitability.
Since the inception of the Social Impact Consulting Program, BCG has supported around a dozen social enterprises in Latin America. Previous winners include Sun Colombia, Agricapital, Cash Agent and Sinba.
