Sustainable Business COP names Deloitte its Knowledge Partner for two working groups
Sustainable Business COP, a Brazilian-led initiative that aims to strengthen private sector participation in global climate negotiations, has named Deloitte as its Knowledge Partner.
A global initiative led by the Brazilian National Confederation of Industry (CNI), Sustainable Business COP brings together companies, sectors, associations, and experts from around the world.
Inspired by the B20 model, the global business community’s dialogue forum with the G20, Sustainable Business COP has been founded this year in the run up to COP30, with the aim to make its formal debut at COP30 but extending to future COPs as well.
“Sustainable Business COP was created as a platform to transform private sector engagement into coordinated action, with a real impact on the negotiations and the results we want to see at COP30. Our challenge is to align climate ambition with economic development, and Brazil has all the conditions to lead this process,” says Davi Bomtempo, Superintendent of Environment and Sustainability at CNI.
Knowledge Partner
Appointed the Knowledge Partner, Deloitte’s role is to facilitate the methodological and technical development of the work of two of the initiative’s eight thematic groups: Sustainable Cities and Green Jobs and Skills – in the latter case, in collaboration with Systemiq (a Netherlands-based change consultancy).
Deloitte is responsible for facilitating working group discussions based on relevant research, data, and analysis, as well as organizing meetings and promoting the exchange of experiences among members. This includes curating national and international content and studies, as well as preparing presentations and materials that help guide group discussions.
Commenting on its role, Maria Emília Peres, partner at Deloitte in Brazil, said: “The Sustainable Business COP represents an important opportunity for the private sector to organize its contributions and commitments toward advancing sustainable and inclusive growth. As a Knowledge Partner, Deloitte applies the technical rigor and long-term scenario planning that are crucial for the private sector to develop viable and actionable recommendations for sustainable solutions.”
In the Sustainable Cities working group, discussions focus on three main areas: energy and sanitation; mobility and logistics; and urban planning and infrastructure. The Green Jobs and Skills working group focuses on topics such as upskilling and reskilling the global workforce to support the energy transition.
The plan
Sustainable Business COP is progressing rapidly, with its recommendations set to be presented to the Brazilian government and COP30 leadership at an event in Brasília next month.
The upcoming 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP) will be held in Belém, Brazil, from 10 to 21 November 2025. Several consulting firms are serving as knowledge partners for the conference and its side events.
