SLR acquires Chilean environmental consulting firm Geobiota
SLR, a global sustainability consultancy, has acquired Geobiota, a 200-person Chilean environmental consulting firm specializing in the mining and energy sectors.
Founded in 1995, Geobiota provides consulting services and solutions in environmental engineering and natural resources. The firm’s team is made up of professionals from a range of backgrounds – including consultants, engineers, agronomists, ecologists, biologists and sociologists – enabling it to offer industry clients, government agencies and engineering firms a multidisciplinary environmental service.
Commenting on the deal, Mauricio Venturin, SLR’s Regional Managing Director for Latin America, said: “The acquisition of Geobiota is a strategic move that enables us to deliver more comprehensive and specialized solutions. Together, we strengthen our ability to support clients in meeting ESG challenges and advancing toward sustainable projects. The deal also positions us as one of the largest pure-play environmental consulting firms in Chile.”
Notably, the two companies have previously worked together on several projects, including Conexión Kimal – Lo Aguirre, Chile’s first high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission line. “Our joint work showcased our shared dedication to client engagement, scientific rigor, and delivery culture.”
Headquartered in the United Kingdom, SLR has over 5,000 staff working from more than 100 offices around the world. In Latin America, the firm has offices in Brazil and Chile, from where it serves the continent. “This acquisition reinforces SLR’s long-term commitment to Latin America and to clients operating across the region’s most critical mining markets, including Chile, Peru, Brazil, and Mexico,” said Venturin.
For Geobiota, meanwhile, joining forces with the global player “allows us to combine our expertise in biodiversity and ecological restoration with the global reach and technical strength of a leading firm,” said General Manager Carlos Prado. “This alliance will enable us to continue delivering value to complex projects and contribute to sustainability in key sectors such as mining and energy.”
