Reforma's deputy editor-in-chief Jorge Padilla joins FTI in Mexico
One of Mexico’s top journalists, Jorge Padilla, deputy editor-in-chief of Mexican newspaper Reforma, has joined FTI Consulting as a Senior Director. Padilla is based in the firm’s Mexico City office.
On the back of his two decades of experience as a senior journalist and editor, Padilla joined the Strategic Communications team of FTI Consulting – the firm’s practice that helps clients design and executes communications strategies for managing strategic, financial, regulatory, M&A and reputational challenges. The division has approximately 650 consultants globally across 45+ offices, with the Latin American footprint comprising a presence in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, British Virgin Islands and Cayman Islands.
“We are excited to welcome Jorge to our team in Mexico,” remarked Brian Kennedy, Head of the Americas for FTI Consulting’s Strategic Communications segment. Pablo Zárate, who leads the Strategic Communications team in Mexico, added: “Welcome, Jorge Padilla! We look forward to team with you.”
At FTI, Padilla will focus on dealing with some of country’s most intricate policy, regulatory and reputational challenges in the energy sector and other burgeoning industries. One of the high-profile projects FTI’s Strategic Communications team has for instance supported in recent years is the modernization of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). The advisory firm worked on behalf of the Mexican government. According to data sourced from the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), a team of nearly 20 FTI consultants worked directly with the top leaders in the Mexican Secretariat of Economy.
“As our clients face new local and cross-border challenges amid an evolving regulatory landscape, executing coordinated and integrated public affairs and reputation management projects has become more important than ever,” explained Kennedy. “Jorge’s years of experience working at the heart of the most important debates that affect businesses in Mexico and throughout Latin America is a great fit for our firm and will make him a valuable asset to our clients.”
In his most recent role prior to joining the global consulting firm, Padilla was Deputy Editor-in-Chief for Reforma, a large newspaper in Mexico. Previously, he served as joint Editor-in-Chief of Mural, Reforma’s newspaper in the western region of the country. Earlier in his career he worked as a Reporter for Reforma and as an Analyst for Citibanamex, Mexico’s central bank. Padilla obtained a Master’s degree in Communication & Media Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).
Commenting on his new challenge, Padilla said, “I am thrilled to join FTI Consulting’s talented team of communications professionals who have done a fantastic job helping companies throughout Mexico and the broader region advance their agendas in a strategic and sustainable way.”
